Heidi L. Tracy
Chief Executive Officer
Heidi L. Tracy is a transformational nonprofit executive with more than 30 years of experience leading organizational growth, strengthening governance, and advancing community health and development. Throughout her career, she has helped organizations secure more than $100 million in support while building sustainable, mission-driven institutions with greater capacity, stronger partnerships, and lasting community impact.
Since joining the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance (MiHIA) as Chief Executive Officer in 2021, Heidi has led the organization’s transformation into a high-performing regional backbone organization that convenes cross-sector partners to address some of Michigan’s most pressing health challenges. Under her leadership, MiHIA has expanded its annual grant portfolio from less than $1 million to almost $4 million, significantly increasing the region’s capacity to improve population health, strengthen community infrastructure, and advance health equity.
Today, MiHIA leads a diverse portfolio of initiatives spanning health systems transformation, community development, and regional collaboration. Under Heidi’s leadership, the organization has undertaken projects ranging from the redevelopment of a former elementary school into a regional community resource hub to serving as the Central Michigan Regional Hub for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Rural Health Transformation Program. Her leadership has positioned MiHIA as a trusted convener capable of bringing together healthcare providers, public health agencies, community organizations, philanthropy, and government partners to develop and scale innovative solutions that improve health outcomes across the region.
Prior to joining MiHIA, Heidi held senior leadership positions at Central Michigan University, Texas Woman’s University, Otterbein University, Carnegie Mellon University, and Ohio University, where she consistently delivered record-setting fundraising results, strengthened organizational capacity, and built enduring community partnerships.
Heidi is a graduate of Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and has completed executive leadership training through Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.
