John W. Fisk, PhD

Food Systems Consultant

John Fisk is the founder and president of Bluestem Food Systems Consulting and works with the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance on its food systems initiatives.

John has over thirty years of experience and leadership in sustainable regional food and farming systems and the intersection with enterprise and economic development, climate change, equity, and philanthropy with training and application in project management, grant making, value chain development, research, program design and evaluation. He offers regional value chain assistance, enterprise planning and market assessment, organizational and funding guidance, project management services, proposal and budget development guidance, organizational assessments, and related services.

Prior to consulting, John was the executive director of the Wallace Center at Winrock International, a US-based not-for-profit organization, where he provided leadership for strategic direction, program development and growth and fund development. As director, he reestablished the Wallace Center as a nationally known and respected food system organization and founded the National Good Food Network, a national community of practice supporting market-based strategies for regional food value chain and food hub development. He also led the development and publication of original research in market-based approaches and strategies for sustainable and equitable food systems. John holds a PhD in Crop and Soil Science from Michigan State University.
