Michigan Health Improvement Alliance elects five new board members

New directors will continue the organization’s work to collectively improve lives and communities by reducing health inequities across central and eastern Michigan

The Michigan Health Improvement Alliance announced the appointment of five new board members who will help support the organization’s work in addressing obstacles to equitable health and well-being across the region.

The new directors – Stacey Klump, Shannon Lijewski, Nicole Luczak, Brianna Lyons and André Reed – began their three-year terms after an election on Nov. 5, 2024.

“I’m looking forward to adding even more depth and experience to our board of directors by appointing members with backgrounds in nursing, public health and non-profits,” said Michigan Health Improvement Alliance CEO Heidi Tracy. “Their collective experience and passion for improving community health will be instrumental in guiding our strategic initiatives and will enhance our ability to drive meaningful change.”

Stacey Klump

Klump is vice president of patient care and chief nursing officer at McLaren Bay Region. She brings over 26 years of experience as a registered nurse with emphasis on professional practice, nursing education and leadership. Prior to her current role, she was the coordinator of Saginaw Valley State University’s RN to BSN program and is known for creating partnerships among educational and healthcare organizations who share passion for growth, opportunity and clinical excellence. Klump also served as the director of medical surgical services at Covenant HealthCare after serving in other roles there such as staff nurse, charge nurse, preceptor, resource team staff nurse, nurse education, clinical nurse specialist, program coordinator and nurse manager.

Shannon Lijewski

Lijewski is the founder of the Rural Community Health Worker (CHW) Network and principal at Everyday Life Consulting, whose team brings vast experience that focuses on building individual, organizational and community capacity to address social determinants of health through clinical-community linkages and CHW sustainability. She has spent the last 22 years serving the most vulnerable community members through outreach, education and health policy, and is a strong advocate in supporting the expansion of CHWs, assisting those who are experiencing homelessness, and helping to eliminate food insecurity.

Nicole Luczak

Luczak is president and CEO of United Way of Bay County, whose mission focuses on ensuring every person has the opportunity to thrive through access to healthcare and a quality education that leads to financial stability. She has spent more than a decade in the non-profit sector and is involved in the region through a variety of initiatives, including as a member of the Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region and the Bay City Morning Rotary Club, and serving on the Human Services Collaborative Committee, the Business and Education Partnership and the Blue Cross Blue Shields Advisory Council for the Great Lakes Bay Region.

Brianna Lyons

Lyons is a community resource coordinator and contract administrator for Bay/Arenac Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Her experience lies in child welfare, where she gained knowledge by serving as a foster specialist, working with foster youth and foster families. Lyons also serves as a representative of DHHS on several committees and non-profits, including Foster Families Navigation and Resource Center, CAN Council, Arenac Community Funds, Arenac County Christmas for Kids, and the Sunrise Community Resource Center Steering Team.

André Reed

Reed is deputy health officer for the Bay County Health Department and is replacing Joel Strasz, their chief health officer, who reached his term limit as a director of the board. Reed has over 15 years of healthcare management experience in family medicine, quality improvement and public health. His career is centered around health promotion, disease prevention and chronic disease elimination. One of Reed’s principal aims is to change the trajectory of social determinants of health in his community.

In addition to the new directors, the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance board re-elected David Brown to serve another one-year term as Treasurer. Brown is vice president and commercial lender at Isabella Bank.

“I am delighted to welcome these new members on behalf of the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance board,” said Marcia Mastracci Ditmyer, chair of the board of directors. “Their knowledge and expertise will be of great value to not only the organization, but to the entire region as we work together to address the health and well-being of our communities.”
