Michigan Health Improvement Alliance appoints new board members

Seven directors will elevate organization’s commitment to equitable health and well-being across central and eastern Michigan

The Michigan Health Improvement Alliance announces the appointment of seven new board of directors members who will help support the organization’s work in addressing obstacles to equitable health and well-being across central and eastern Michigan.

The new members — George Aultman, Dr. Paul Berg, Kathy Dollard, Sarah Kile, Dan Scheffer, Angelia Williams and Jessica Yoder — began their three-year terms Nov. 3. Each can serve up to three consecutive terms. They replace six directors whose terms have ended. 

“I’m delighted to welcome a strong group of board members and am excited about the breadth of expertise and vision they bring to our organization,” said Michigan Health Improvement Alliance President and CEO Heidi Tracy. “Our board represents a diverse range of industries, including health care, business, education, nonprofit, local government and public health, and our newest board members are no exception.”

George Aultman

Aultman is vice president of sales and marketing for Vantage Plastics, a position he began after 35 years in private practice as a chartered financial consultant and certified advisor for senior living. He co-founded Vantage in 1996. He has served on many civic groups and has held several positions within the faith community, including as a Stephen Minister, help provide support and individual counseling as a caregiver for individuals challenged by various life events.

Dr. Paul Berg

Dr. Berg is senior vice president and chief medical officer at MyMichigan Health, overseeing administration for medical staff, graduate medical education, continuing medical education, clinical quality, patient safety, performance improvement and innovation, regulatory compliance, MyMichigan Medical Group, population health, and risk and claims. Dr. Berg is a board-certified family physician who joined MyMichigan in 2005; he has been president of MyMichigan Medical Group since February 2018.

Kathy Dollard

Dollard is MyMichigan Health’s first director of the Behavioral Health Service Line. She is a licensed psychologist and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She previously was the Midland County program director with Community Mental Health for Central Michigan, chairing the county’s Health and Human Services Council, its Domestic and Sexual Violence Coordinating Committee and the area’s Partnership for Drug Free Youth.

She has developed behavioral health services strategic plans and implemented integrated behavioral health initiatives in primary care settings. She has developed autism programs, a behavioral health telehub to support patients in mental health crisis, and Zero Suicides initiatives. She serves on the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance’s Substance Use Disorder Strategy Steering Committee.

Sarah Kile

Kile is director of community and partner engagement with Michigan 211, working to make 211 more accessible to the state’s most vulnerable. Having led a 23-county 211 center in Northeast Michigan, she is known for bringing people together. She also serves on the leadership team for the National 211 Steering Committee and represents Michigan on the National 211 Council of States.

Kile has spent her career focused on public health promotion and activism. She is a lifetime certified trainer and consultant for Bridges Out of Poverty, promoting respect and equality for those struggling with poverty. She is mayor of the city of Gladwin and treasurer of the Clare-Gladwin RESD Board of Education.

Dan Scheffer

Scheffer is director of business operations for Ascension St. Mary’s, Ascension St. Joseph and Ascension Standish hospitals, responsible for rehabilitation, facilities, construction, capital planning, clinical engineering, environmental services, and food and nutritional services. He became a certified manual physical therapist in 2010 and continues to treat patients as well as manage all outpatient rehabilitation facilities for Ascension St. Mary’s.

Angelia Williams

Williams is senior vice president for Great Lakes Bay Health Centers, leading operational aspects such as workforce and growth development, employee and community engagement, leadership development, and other special projects. Her achievements include implementation of the Ryan White HIV Medical Clinic and school-based health programs.

Williams, a registered nurse with more than 40 years of experience, has always been committed to meeting the needs of those who are underserved and often neglected by the health care system. She works to educate communities on health disparities and to improve access to health care and diminish preventable health challenges.

Jessica Yoder

Yoder, a staunch mental health advocate,is a total rewards plan manager with The Dow Chemical Company, responsible for management and execution of the North America benefit plans. Globally, she is responsible for Dow’s international medical and dental and international life insurance plans. She negotiates and sets plan rates, drives plan improvements, and manages vendor relationships.

Directors re-elected, vice chair named

In addition to its new members, the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance re-elected five current board members for another three-year term:

  • Kevin Albosta — Vice president of consulting services and chief financial officer, Covenant Healthcare
  • David Brown, treasurer — Vice president and commercial lender, Isabella Bank
  • Maureen Donker, Executive director, Reece Endeavor of Midland; Mayor of Midland
  • Craig Tatum, secretary — Pastor, New Life Baptist Ministries
  • Andreas Teich — Retired pastor

Dr. Augustine Osagie, senior medical director of Great Lakes/Mid-America, CVS Health/Aetna, was named vice chair of the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance board. He replaces Dr. George Kikano, vice president for health affairs at Central Michigan University and dean of the College of Medicine, who has been vice chair since 2019.

“My fellow directors and I are pleased to welcome these seven new members to the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance board,” said Marcia Ditmyer, chair of the board of directors. “I’m certain they will add tremendous value to the organization and to the health and well-being of the communities here in central and eastern Michigan.”
