Andy’s Place will help individuals throughout central, eastern Michigan
An addiction recovery housing project originally planned to help local residents making their way through Midland County’s specialty courts has been expanded to serve the multicounty region. The facility will provide a healthy, safe and supportive long-term living environment for more individuals and families throughout central and eastern Michigan.
“Since announcing this project, we’ve received an overwhelming amount of interest from families in our area who believe their loved ones affected by substance use disorder would benefit from a facility like this,” said Heidi Tracy, Michigan Health Improvement Alliance CEO. “While Andy’s Place will no longer be located in Midland, we remain fully committed to providing safe, affordable housing to the recovery community, including for Midland County residents.”
The Michigan Health Improvement Alliance serves as the nonprofit partner of record for the Andy’s Place project.
The original Andy’s Place in Jackson was completed in 2020 and was the first housing project in the nation to address long-term recovery needs of drug court participants. The facility planned for central and eastern Michigan is modeled after the one in Jackson. Its apartments will provide affordable housing and ongoing, on-site recovery support for residents who are participating in an intensive rehabilitation and probation program.
The newly expanded project will include a location outside of Midland that will serve the region, including more families through two-bedroom apartments, making it more inclusive of those in recovery. Project managers also are exploring the opportunity of working with veterans in recovery.
Milner and Caringella, a nationally recognized real estate development and project management company, remains the lead developer for the project. The company is highly regarded for supporting communities through public/private partnerships that build affordable housing with on-site support services.
“We have made great progress over the past year and are excited to expand on this project, ultimately impacting even more lives and communities,” said Mitch Milner, president of Milner and Caringella.
Tracy said next steps include building additional partnerships and identifying a new location.
“We’re connecting with others in our region to build partnerships, collaborate and ultimately develop an outstanding facility that is sure to improve lives and communities right here in our region,” she said.
