Saginaw, MI–The Michigan Health Improvement Alliance, (MiHIA,) is pleased to announce its recent award of $414,700 from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund to be used to develop a strategy for comprehensive and sustainable funding and financing system for THRIVE (Transforming Regional Health in a Vibrant Economy). A collaboration initiative between the Great Lakes Bay Alliance and MiHIA, THRIVE’s mission is to deliver improved health and sustained economic growth to the Great Lakes Bay region.

“THRIVE has always emphasized the connection between a healthier region and improved economic performance, which has helped bring nontraditional partners to the table. This is a committed collaborative with the potential to make long-term systemic change in the Great Lakes Bay region,” said Janet Olszewski of the Health Fund. “We’re particularly impressed with their disciplined, comprehensive approach to achieving financial sustainability, and look forward to learning along with them.”

After two years of extensive work and collaboration with community partners, THRIVE has completed a sophisticated strategic planning process that will positively impact the region’s long long-term trajectory of poor and declining health, serious equity challenges, and struggles to improve the economy. Simulation modeling demonstrates that the THRIVE balanced portfolio of 34 evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions will improve target measures of health improvement and economic success for the Great Lakes Bay region.

“We are very pleased and excited to be selected as a 2019 Special Projects and Emerging Ideas grant recipient. Our careful and detailed work involved identifying all available funding and financing sources, applying for grants from those sources, and then building a plan for other collaborations to create long term sustainability for the health and economic improvement projects,” says Beth Roszatycki, CEO for MiHIA.
