An effective financial model is required to drive widespread adoption and diffusion of health data exchange and Health Information Technology (HIT) within the region.  Financial incentives must be properly aligned, and a realistic business case and value proposition should be defined for health data exchange, HIT and future Inter-Medical Trading Area exchange.

 

Finance Tasks:

 

  • Articulate the value on investment and the business case for investments in health information exchange within the region
  • Identify the key financial beneficiaries of health information exchange and HIT
  • Examine approaches and successful examples of financial strategies to increase adoption of HIT and health data exchange in efforts within the region
  • Propose finance strategies for funding HIT and health data exchange (startup and long term), including the appropriate role of public and private sectors
  • Identify specific financial actions required to support regional development of an exchange and sustainability
  • Champion an implementation business plan for MiHIA
